Property details
Hotel Coutettaz is one of the most distinctive places to stay in Morzine, combining the atmosphere of an historic Savoyard manor house with the comfort and service of a luxury boutique hotel. Located at 429 Chemin de la Coutettaz, the property is much more than a conventional mountain hotel: its architecture, rooms, food and hospitality are all closely connected to the history of Morzine.
The hotel describes itself as an historic manor house reimagined as a luxury boutique property, while Morzine's official tourism information highlights its authenticity, welcoming atmosphere and distinctive character. The building dates from 1771 and is regarded locally as the oldest standing house in Morzine.
What makes Hotel Coutettaz especially appealing is the balance between historic authenticity and contemporary luxury. Original stone walls, dark wooden beams and Morzine slate floors have been retained, while bedrooms have been individually redesigned with elegant furnishings, comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. The result is an eclectic mixture of rustic Alpine features, antique furnishings, rich textiles, contemporary bathrooms and carefully selected decorative pieces.
The hotel currently offers 11 individually styled rooms, with accommodation ranging from rooms for two people to larger rooms that can accommodate two adults plus additional children.
The rooms are:
Family – the former master bedroom of the manor
India – inspired by the colours and atmosphere of the Indian subcontinent
Blue – a romantic room particularly suited to honeymoons
Atelier – formerly a workshop
Mazot – a historic garden hideaway
Old Kitchen – originally part of the stables
Cell – formerly the town jail
Pommier – once used as a fruit store
Corner – with panoramic views across Morzine
Grange – originally part of the working barn
Cordonnerie – formerly the local cobbler's workshop.
The Blue Room
The Blue room is particularly suitable for couples looking for a romantic stay. At approximately 28 m², it is one of the more spacious rooms and features a king-size bed, eclectic antique furnishings and a Victorian-inspired en-suite bathroom with a large bath. The combination of generous space, views and historic decoration makes it particularly appropriate for honeymoons and special occasions.
The India Room
The India room offers a completely different aesthetic. Measuring approximately 18 m², it has a rich colour palette, dark timber flooring and an interior designed to create a warm, enveloping atmosphere. Underfloor heating adds comfort during the colder months, while the bathroom includes a modern walk-in rain shower. Its balcony overlooks the garden and provides views toward Morzine's old town and Avoriaz. The outdoor space can be used for a quiet morning coffee or an evening drink while taking in the mountain surroundings.
The Grange Room
The Grange takes its name from the original barn area of the manor. This room measures approximately 22 m² and combines a king-size bed with underfloor heating, comfortable textiles and a spacious bathroom containing both a bath and separate walk-in shower. Its balcony overlooks the garden and offers views toward Morzine and the surrounding mountains. The hotel's description also notes views toward the local ski run and the beginning of the Col de Joux Plane climb made famous by the Tour de France. The room can accommodate additional children, making it a flexible choice for a small family as well as a couple.
Despite their historic surroundings, the rooms are equipped for contemporary comfort. Depending on the room, guests can expect features such as:
* King-size beds
* Quality linens
* Private bathrooms
* Baths or walk-in showers
* Underfloor heating in selected rooms
* Bathrobes and slippers
* Premium L'Occitane toiletries
* Nespresso coffee machines
* Tea-making facilities
* Hairdryers
* Artisan chocolates
* Wardrobes and storage
* Balconies in selected rooms
* Mountain or village views.
The hotel therefore manages to retain the romance of an old building without compromising on the conveniences expected from an upscale modern property.
Food is one of the central elements of the Hotel Coutettaz experience. The hotel describes its cuisine as modern European dining using fresh local ingredients, while its atmosphere combines sophisticated cooking with the warmth of an Alpine dinner. The dining room is particularly atmospheric. Candlelight, traditional architecture and the historic character of the building create an intimate setting for evening meals. During winter stays, the hotel's current room information states that packages can include a four-course evening meal with wine, along with pre-dinner canapés and post-dinner coffee and chocolates. This approach makes dinner an important part of the stay rather than simply an optional hotel restaurant.
Breakfast is another highlight. Winter stays can include a combination of cooked and continental breakfast, providing a substantial start to a day of skiing or other mountain activities. The breakfast service fits the hotel's broader approach to hospitality: rather than rushing guests through a functional buffet, the emphasis is on quality food and attentive service.
The hotel also adds several smaller culinary touches throughout the day. Current winter inclusions listed for the rooms include afternoon tea and cakes, followed by canapés before dinner. After the evening meal, guests can return to the bar for coffee and chocolates.
The bar and lounge area are among the most atmospheric parts of the hotel.
Although Hotel Coutettaz is relatively intimate, it provides a useful collection of facilities.
These include:
* Private parking
* Garden
* Outdoor areas
* Restaurant
* Bar
* Fireplace
* Reception/event space
* Wi-Fi
