Levi Overview

Levi is the largest and most internationally recognized ski resort in Finland, located in the heart of Finnish Lapland above the Arctic Circle. Known for its reliable snow conditions, modern infrastructure, and lively village atmosphere, Levi combines skiing with a wide range of Arctic winter experiences. The resort is built around Levi Fell, offering a compact but well-developed ski area with slopes suited to beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers, as well as terrain parks and extensive off-piste opportunities in surrounding wilderness areas. Although the vertical drop is smaller than in the Alps, the long season, uncrowded slopes, and excellent snow maintenance make Levi one of Northern Europe’s leading ski destinations.

Levi is particularly famous for combining alpine skiing with Nordic winter culture. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers hundreds of kilometers of cross-country ski trails through forests and open snowy landscapes. Visitors can also experience husky safaris, snowmobiling, reindeer excursions, ice karting, snowshoeing, and Northern Lights tours, all of which are central to the resort’s Arctic identity.

The village itself is modern and compact, with ski-in/ski-out accommodation, restaurants, bars, spas, and shops concentrated within walking distance of the lifts. Compared to many Scandinavian resorts, Levi has a relatively lively après-ski and nightlife scene, attracting both international travellers and Finnish visitors. The resort also hosts major sporting events, including Alpine Ski World Cup races, which have helped strengthen its international profile.

Overall, Levi stands out for its combination of accessible skiing, Lapland wilderness experiences, and vibrant village life, offering a distinctly Arctic ski holiday that differs from traditional Alpine resorts.

Things to do in Levi

Activities - Winter in Levi offers a wide range of Arctic activities beyond alpine skiing, making it one of the most complete winter destinations in northern Europe. Visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing on extensive groomed trails, snowshoeing through snowy forests, snowmobile safaris across frozen landscapes, and husky or reindeer sled rides that showcase traditional Lapland culture. The resort is also one of the best places in Finland to see the Northern Lights during clear winter nights. Families can explore Santa-themed activities and beginner-friendly snow areas, while adventure seekers can try ice karting, winter fat biking, or guided wilderness tours. After outdoor activities, many guests relax in saunas, spas, and cosy restaurants in the lively Levi village, which combines Scandinavian comfort with a vibrant winter atmosphere.

Restaurants - Restaurants in Levi are a major part of the resort experience and offer one of the most varied dining scenes in Finnish Lapland. The compact village contains everything from casual cafés and slope-side eateries to stylish Nordic restaurants and traditional Lappish dining venues. Local cuisine plays an important role, with many restaurants serving regional specialties such as reindeer, Arctic char, salmon, wild berries, mushrooms, and hearty winter stews that reflect the flavors of northern Finland. Alongside traditional Finnish and Sámi-inspired dishes, Levi also offers a wide range of international options including pizza, Asian cuisine, burgers, and modern European dining, catering to the resort’s growing international visitor base. Many venues combine warm wooden interiors, fireplaces, and panoramic snowy views, creating a cozy Arctic atmosphere during the long winter evenings. Dining in Levi is often closely connected to the resort’s social life, with restaurants blending naturally into bars and après-ski venues later in the evening.

Nightlife - Après-ski and nightlife in Levi are among the liveliest in Finland, giving the resort a more energetic atmosphere than many other destinations in Lapland. After the lifts close, bars and slope-side venues quickly fill with skiers enjoying drinks, live music, DJs, and the relaxed social culture that defines Nordic après-ski. The village has a compact layout, so restaurants, pubs, clubs, and hotels are all within easy walking distance, helping create a vibrant evening scene despite Levi’s remote Arctic location. Nightlife ranges from cozy lounges and cocktail bars to late-night clubs that become especially busy during holiday weeks and major ski events. Finnish and international visitors mix easily, and the atmosphere tends to combine casual Scandinavian style with a festive ski-resort energy. At the same time, Levi still retains a strong connection to Lapland’s winter culture, so evenings are often balanced between lively bars, sauna experiences, and opportunities to view the Northern Lights under the dark Arctic sky.
