Alpe d'Huez Overview

Alpe d'Huez, also known as ‘The Island of the Sun’, is a large ski resort offering over 250 km of slopes suitable for all levels of skiers, from beginners to intermediate and advanced. This nickname is due to the fact that the sun shines here for more than 300 days a year, but snow is never a problem thanks to the resort's high altitude. This resort has large nursery areas, including the largest in France, as well as the longest black run in the world, the Sarenne. For freeride and off-piste skiing enthusiasts, Alpe d'Huez is the place to be. You can also hire a guide to take you to the best spots for crazy descents.

The town is quite lively and you will find plenty of ways to keep yourself entertained. If you are a foodie, Alpe d'Huez is the place for you: the town offers more than 60 restaurants, among which you will find something to suit your taste, whether you prefer small French restaurants serving traditional local dishes, gourmet restaurants, sushi bars, burger joints or pizzerias. As for après-ski and nightlife, Alpe d'Huez has something for everyone, from more relaxed venues where you can enjoy a quiet aperitif to classic après-ski bars where you can let your hair down and then continue the evening in a disco, dancing until the early hours of the morning.
