Obergurgl Overview

Obergurgl is one of the highest villages in the Alps at 1930m, so offers guaranteed snow.. The ski area has plenty of variety too, from gentle nursery slopes, tree-lined and wide open pistes. Beginners are well looked after by the local ski school, and kids can have fun on the slopes or trying the mini jumps in the snow park.

There are plenty of high quality hotels with great facilities such as pools, saunas etc. and playrooms for kids – most hotels are just a short walk to the nearest ski lift.

In the evenings the village is very peaceful although if you are looking for some après ski then most head to the Nederhütte bar The live band hits the stage mid afternoon each day to get the party started.

Things to do in Obergurgl

Activities - Winter in Obergurgl is centred around its high-alpine scenery and excellent range of outdoor activities. Skiing and snowboarding are the main attractions, with the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl area offering slopes for different abilities. Away from the pistes, visitors can enjoy peaceful winter walks and snowshoeing through snowy forests, cross-country skiing, or a fun toboggan ride. The three-kilometre natural toboggan run in Hochgurgl is also available for night-time rides on selected evenings. For a more relaxing day, ice skating, cosy mountain restaurants and wellness are good alternatives. A visit to the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum in Hochgurgl or a trip to the Aqua Dome thermal baths can also add some variety to a winter stay.

Restaurants - Obergurgl has a varied restaurant scene that combines traditional Tyrolean cuisine with international and fine-dining options. Visitors can enjoy hearty Alpine dishes, pizzas and casual meals, as well as more refined menus in elegant mountain hotels. Restaurant Pic-Nic is a relaxed choice for Austrian-style food, while Hohe Mut Alm offers a classic mountain dining experience with impressive views. For a more sophisticated evening, Austria Stuben - Kulinarik auf 1930m - a Michelin Star Restaurant focuses on creative, contemporary cuisine with regional influences. Overall, eating out in Obergurgl ranges from informal lunches during a day on the slopes to cosy dinners featuring Austrian specialities, international flavours and carefully selected wines. Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl is another example of the area's more refined Alpine dining style.

Apres Ski & Nightlife - Obergurgl offers a lively but relatively relaxed après-ski and nightlife scene, making it easy to continue the day after the lifts close. On the mountain, Nederhütte is a popular place for après-ski, with live music, drinks and a lively atmosphere at around 2,100 metres. Back in the village, Josl Keller is a well-known choice for a later night, with DJs, dancing and regular events. The Iceberg Bar Sports & more offers another casual option for drinks and evening entertainment. Overall, Obergurgl's nightlife combines traditional Alpine après-ski with a selection of bars and late-night venues without feeling like an all-night party resort.

Your ski pass also covers you for the Solden ski area and even though the resort is snow sure due to it's high altitude, the pistes are covered by 90% in snow cannons if required.

Airport Transfers - How to get to Obergurgl

We can organise your transfers from Salzburg airport, Innsbruck airport or Munich airport. You can also choose between a shuttle transfer which can be more economical if only a few people are travelling or a private transfer which will take you direct from the airport to your accommodation.
