St. Johann Overview

St. Johann is a great village and ski area especially if it's your first time on the slopes or maybe you just want some easy / intermediate pistes. The slopes are mostly tree lined and there is also a beginners area next to the village to get you started.. St. Johann boasts a superb ski school and the kids also have a snow park and fun slope to keep them entertained.

You can also get a ski pass that covers you to ski in areas like Kitzbuhel making the ski area even better if you want some extra kilometers to do

The village itself has a pedestrianised center which is full of frescoed buildings and a large domed church dominates the center. Nightlife is fairly low key however there are a good few spots to go to should you fancy a drink or two in the evenings and Max's bar is always worth heading to for Après ski - (you could always take a taxi into Kitzbuhel for an evening should you want a night out)

The village also has it's own brewery (Huber Bräu) where you can enjoy a drink at the top of the 30m tower whilst enjoying fantastic panoramic views.

Things to do in St. Johann

Activities - St. Johann in Tirol offers a varied winter experience, combining accessible skiing with plenty of activities away from the slopes. The local ski area has around 40 kilometres of pistes, including gentle runs for beginners, more challenging terrain and a snowpark for snowboarders and freestyle enthusiasts. Winter is not limited to skiing, however. The surrounding region is ideal for cross-country skiing, with more than 170 kilometres of trails, while marked winter hiking and snowshoe routes provide a peaceful way to explore the snowy landscape around the Wilder Kaiser and Kitzbüheler Alps. Visitors can also go tobogganing, including on a 2.5-kilometre natural run, enjoy ice skating, or take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the winter scenery. For something more adventurous, ski touring and the Flying Fox winter course offer alternative ways to experience the mountains. Families can also take advantage of dedicated practice areas and other child-friendly winter activities. With its combination of mountain sports, snowy outdoor adventures and relaxed Tyrolean village atmosphere, St. Johann in Tirol is well suited to travellers who want to experience different sides of an Alpine winter holiday.

Restaurants - St. Johann in Tirol offers a varied dining scene that combines traditional Tyrolean cooking with Italian, international and contemporary options. Visitors can enjoy regional favourites such as schnitzel, dumplings, Käsespätzle and Kaiserschmarrn, often in cosy restaurants with a classic Alpine atmosphere. Examples include Huber Bräu Turmstüberl, a traditional Austrian restaurant, and Wirtshaus Jagglbäck, which offers a welcoming local setting. For Italian cuisine and pizza, Ristorante Pizzeria LaRustica is an option, while Berggasthaus Grander Schupf provides a classic mountain dining experience on the Kitzbüheler Horn. The area also includes more refined culinary experiences, with the Michelin Guide listing Wirtshaus Post among the restaurants in St. Johann in Tirol and its surroundings.

Nightlife - Après-ski in St. Johann in Tirol has a relaxed and sociable character that fits the village itself. Rather than being known primarily for huge, all-night ski parties, St. Johann combines traditional Tyrolean hospitality with a good selection of bars and places to continue the evening after skiing. The ski area also hosts organised après-ski events during the winter, including ski parties with music and mulled wine. After the lifts close, skiers can head into the village for a drink, something to eat and a more relaxed evening. The atmosphere ranges from classic pub-style venues to cocktail bars and lounges, so it is easy to find somewhere suited to a quiet drink as well as a livelier night out. Some examples include Webern Ski & Board Bar, which is conveniently located close to the ski area, and Post Bar, a central cocktail bar that stays open into the early hours on several winter evenings. For a more traditional pub atmosphere, Max Pub Restaurant is another option. Cubo Skylounge offers a more contemporary setting, while Rogis Cafe - Bar - Pub is another popular choice for an evening drink. A typical winter evening might start with glühwein or a hot drink after the last run, continue with dinner in the village, and then move on to a bar for cocktails, beer or music. On selected days, organised ski parties add a more energetic après-ski atmosphere. Overall, St. Johann is a good fit for visitors who want skiing, traditional Austrian atmosphere and enjoyable evenings without the nightlife being the sole focus of the holiday. The village offers enough variety for couples, groups of friends and families, while the larger Tyrolean party destinations remain an alternative for those looking for a much more intense club scene.
