Chamonix Overview

Chamonix is one of the most famous and prestigious ski resorts in the world and hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924. This resort offers 150 km of slopes and, although not as large as other resorts, it offers the right terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Chamonix is a true paradise for more experienced skiers, who will find great fun both on and off the slopes. In fact, Chamonix is home to one of the most famous freeride routes in the world, the 20 km long Vallée Blanche. From Chamonix, you can also experience skiing on a glacier, where you can enjoy excellent snow conditions.

The town of Chamonix is charming, and strolling along the pedestrian streets of the centre, you can enjoy the Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture that characterises the village. There are more than 170 restaurants in the town and mountains, and many sports shops where you can shop during your holiday. Chamonix offers a lively après-ski and nightlife scene, thanks to the presence of many clubs to suit all tastes and preferences.

Things to do in Chamonix

Things to do - Among the activities you can enjoy in Chamonix, in addition to classic skiing and snowboarding on the slopes, there is freeriding and off-piste skiing, heli-skiing, ski touring, paragliding, and for those who don't like such adrenaline-fuelled activities, there is also snowshoe walking and ice skating. When you want to relax, you can go to the leisure centre with swimming pool in Chamonix, visit the local museums, enjoy a good film at the cinema in the town or have fun at the casino.

Restaurants - Chamonix offers an incredible selection of restaurants, more than 170 in total, ranging from those that fill the town to those located along the ski slopes. You are sure to find restaurants that suit your taste, whether you prefer simple establishments with a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy traditional cuisine, Michelin-starred restaurants, pizzerias, burger joints or sushi bars. Among the restaurants we definitely recommend you try, depending on your preferences, are Albert Premier, a Michelin-starred restaurant undoubtedly one of the best in the world in a ski resort, Josephine, a typical French restaurant serving traditional dishes as well as seafood, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view while you eat, Casa Valerio, which serves a wide selection of pizzas, pasta dishes and meat in a relaxed atmosphere at reasonable prices and stays open late, Rose du Pont, a small brasserie located in the centre of the village with an extensive menu including fish dishes, and Micro Brasserie de Chamonix, run by Canadians, where you can enjoy excellent hamburgers.

Nightlife - Chamonix offers a wealth of opportunities when it comes to après-ski and nightlife, and you're sure to find the place that's right for you, whether you're more into a quiet aperitif or partying until the early hours of the morning. Among the places to try are The Pub, an English-style pub where you can watch sports on TV and dance until late at night. This venue also hosts fancy parties. Then there is Chambre Neuf, a Swedish-style venue offering live music almost every day, and Bar'd Up, known as the Australian bar, with DJ sets and live music.
