Set in the heart of the Grand Massif, the ESF Flaine ski and snowboard school is one of the main providers of winter-sports instruction in the resort. Founded in 1968, the school has built its reputation around professional teaching, a broad choice of disciplines and programmes designed for different ages and abilities. Today, its team includes around 90 state-qualified instructors who teach throughout the winter season.
From a first experience on skis to advanced freeride and freestyle coaching, ESF Flaine offers a wide range of ways to discover the mountains. Lessons can be taken in groups or privately, allowing visitors to choose between a sociable learning environment and more personalised instruction.
Alpine skiing is at the centre of the ESF Flaine programme, with courses available for young children, older children, teenagers and adults. Group lessons typically contain around nine to 12 pupils, with classes organised according to age and skiing ability. This level-based approach allows instructors to concentrate on appropriate skills while helping participants progress alongside others at a similar stage.
This structure is useful for families because children and adults can arrange instruction appropriate to their individual experience rather than having to follow a single programme. The school also has meeting points in several parts of Flaine, including Flaine Forum and Flaine Forêt, helping guests staying in different areas of the resort access their lessons.
Ski / Snowboard Lessons for All Ages
Children and teenagers group ski school
For children, ESF Flaine has programmes beginning with introductory activities for younger skiers before moving into the established progression system. Children aged five and over can join regular group ski lessons, while the Ski Privilège option reduces the group size to a maximum of six children.
There are also specialist programmes for young skiers who want something beyond conventional lessons. The Team Rider programme, available from age 10, introduces more adventurous aspects of skiing, while competition courses are available to children who have reached the required level.
Snowboard instruction is available for both children and adults. Children's group snowboard lessons start from age eight and cater for different abilities. Depending on the group's level, instructors may introduce riders to varied terrain, flatland techniques or the snow park. The children's snowboard programme meets at Flaine Forum.
Teenagers and adults can also join snowboard courses. ESF Flaine offers mixed young-person and adult sessions as well as level-based programmes ranging from beginner to expert. Current course information shows morning and afternoon formats, with beginners placed in the appropriate sessions for their level.

Adult Group Ski School
Adult skiing at ESF Flaine is not limited to beginners. The school provides instruction adapted to different abilities and disciplines, allowing experienced skiers to continue developing their technique rather than simply learning the fundamentals. Adult group courses are available alongside private tuition, and the school also offers family-oriented skiing sessions.
For adults who prefer snowboarding, the school provides dedicated group instruction, with courses designed to help riders develop confidence and technique in a supportive setting. Lessons are available in several languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese and Russian.

Private Ski / Snowboard lessons
Private lessons at French Ski School Esf Flaine offer a flexible way to improve your skiing or snowboarding with an instructor focused entirely on your needs. Suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike, sessions can be tailored to your ability, confidence and personal goals.
You can book a lesson on your own, with family members or with friends of a similar level. The personalised format allows the instructor to concentrate on specific areas of technique, help build confidence or introduce you to a new discipline. Private tuition is available for skiing and snowboarding, alongside specialist activities offered by the school.
