Sils Maria Overview

Sils Maria is a peaceful and elegant alpine resort located in the Upper Engadin valley, surrounded by frozen lakes, forests, and dramatic mountain scenery. Part of the larger Engadin ski region connected to nearby St. Moritz, the resort provides access to excellent skiing areas such as Corvatsch, known for its high-altitude slopes, reliable snow conditions, and long runs suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers. The area is also famous for its extensive cross-country skiing network, winter hiking trails, and breathtaking panoramic views across the Engadin lakes.

The village of Sils Maria combines traditional Swiss charm with a refined cultural atmosphere that has long attracted artists, writers, and philosophers, including Friedrich Nietzsche. Visitors can enjoy cosy hotels, gourmet restaurants, wellness spas, and a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere than some of the larger Swiss ski resorts. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, winter activities include snowshoeing, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and scenic excursions through the snowy Engadin landscape. With its combination of nature, culture, and high-quality winter sports, Sils Maria is regarded as one of the most charming winter destinations in Switzerland.
