Esf Valmorel is the main French Ski School (ESF) operation in Valmorel, offering a broad programme of skiing, snowboarding and other snow-based activities for children, teenagers and adults. The school has a team of around 150 instructors and describes its teaching approach as suitable for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced mountain enthusiasts.
Set in the traditional village-style resort of Valmorel, ESF provides a choice of group and private tuition, allowing visitors to select a learning format that matches their ability, age and holiday plans.
One of the strongest features of ESF Valmorel is the breadth of its age-specific programmes. Children can begin with introductory snow activities from around three years old, while dedicated courses are available for children aged 6–12, teenagers aged 13–18 and adults. Snowboarding is also available, with children's snowboard instruction starting from age eight.
This structure means families do not need to rely on a single generic lesson format. Younger children can learn through specially adapted activities, older youngsters can follow progressive ski or snowboard programmes, and adults can choose courses based on their own experience and objectives.
International visitors can benefit from multilingual instruction. ESF Valmorel's private-lesson information lists French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese among the languages spoken by instructors. Being able to receive explanations and technical feedback in a familiar language can make lessons easier to follow, particularly for beginners and younger participants.
Ski / Snowboard Lessons for All Ages
Children and teenagers group ski school
For younger skiers, ESF Valmorel operates Club Piou Piou programmes aimed at introducing children to skiing through play and discovery. The school lists programmes for children aged three to five, followed by more traditional ski lessons once they have reached the appropriate level.
The early-learning environment is intended to make children comfortable with snow, skis and movement before they progress to more demanding terrain. This playful approach can be particularly useful for children who are experiencing skiing for the first time.
As children become more capable, they can move through the recognised ESF progression system, including levels such as Ourson, Flocon and the Star awards.
For children aged 6–12, ESF Valmorel offers group skiing from Ourson through to Golden Star level. There are also dedicated snowboard courses from age eight, with programmes designed for different levels of experience. The school also offers a competition course for children who have progressed beyond Golden Star. This provides a route for stronger young skiers who want to develop their skills further and experience timed slalom-style training.
Teenagers have their own programmes at ESF Valmorel, helping older children learn alongside participants of a similar age. Group ski and snowboard lessons are available for teenagers from 13 to 18, with courses designed for different ability levels.
More experienced teenagers can also take part in specialist programmes. ESF lists competition courses and other advanced activities for participants who have reached the required level, allowing confident young skiers to work on performance and explore different aspects of mountain skiing.

Adult Group Ski School
Adults can choose group ski or snowboard lessons at ESF Valmorel. The school describes its adult programme around three ideas: technique, discovery and conviviality. Courses are designed both for people trying skiing for the first time and for those wanting to improve existing skills.
Group tuition offers the opportunity to learn alongside other adults at a broadly comparable level. For beginners, this can provide a supportive introduction to skiing, while more experienced participants can concentrate on refining their technique and becoming more confident across the resort.

Private Ski / Snowboard lessons
Visitors who prefer more individual attention can book private instruction. ESF Valmorel offers personalised lessons for both children and adults, with instructors adapting the session to the participant's objectives and pace.
Private lessons are available for skiing and snowboarding and can accommodate up to three people when participants have a similar level. The school currently advertises 90-minute private sessions from €90 for one or two people, with different pricing for three participants and certain periods.
Private tuition can be especially useful for beginners who need extra reassurance, experienced skiers with a specific technical goal, or families whose members want to learn together at a similar standard.
